Team American Chaos Heads to Morocco for the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles

March 18th, 2016 (Corona, CA) – Nicole Pitell-Vaughan, co-founder and Director of Operations at TOTAL CHAOS Fabrication, and Chrissie Beavis, architect and professional rally racer, headed to Morocco this week to compete in the 26th edition of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles. The duo is team #180 and bears the title of Team American Chaos.

Known as one of the toughest all-female sporting events on the planet, they will be one of nine U.S. teams in a field of 135 teams entered into the popular 4×4 class.  Pitell-Vaughan and Beavis are no strangers to rallying the Moroccan terrain, having both competed one and two times respectively.  Beavis won the Crossover class in 2015.

Anyone who is familiar with Pitell-Vaughan’s lexicon knows the TOTAL CHAOS company name wasn’t pulled out of a hat.  Her full-speed ahead mentality has helped to push her company to its success today. With Pitell-Vaughan’s skills behind the wheel and Beavis’ undisputed top-notch reputation as a professional navigator, the team is poised to take home more than a little Moroccan dirt.

The Morocco Taco

Also making its return is the CRC/TOTAL CHAOS 2014 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4WD, affectionately known as the “Morocco Taco.” Having been the loyal 3rd Gazelle for Pitell-Vaughan last year steering into a top ten finish, the truck is fully-prepped for a shot at the top rankings.

Although competition begins March 23rd with the Prologue in Erfoud, Morocco,  this truck’s 2016 journey began in February.

Despite well-laid plans and a time cushion, the truck was delayed loading onto the container ship in the U.S., followed by three consecutive weeks of multiple back to back delays as it sat at the connector port in Algeciras, Spain.  As the clock ticked and no guarantee when the Tacoma would arrive in Casablanca, the stressed but focused Pitell-Vaughan played it safe and hopped on a plane to Spain. With paperwork modified and customs cleared, the competition vehicle safely made it into her hands on Wednesday.  Without further interruptions, the two boarded the ferry to Morocco on Thursday and headed straight for Casablanca where Beavis lands today.

“The shipping situation was really distracting mentally and to my training program,” stated Pitell-Vaughan.  “It created several challenges and added another element of adversity with so much time and effort invested in the last eight months to compete. It’s also added to the already intense challenge of the rally competition, but we are very fortunate to have industry alliances in both Morocco and Spain that really made things happen in a short amount of time.”
