US TEAM #180 Returns to Rallye Aicha de Gazelles

by chaosfab on March 3, 2016

CRC Industries and TOTAL CHAOS Fabrication to send accomplished off-road racer Nicole Pitell-Vaughan and decorated rally navigator Chrissie Beavis to Morocco, Africa to compete in the 26th edition of the esteemed Rallye Aiicha de Gazelles.

Corona, Ca. –  In pursuit of victory, CRC Industries & TOTAL CHAOS Fabrication have come together to provide Nicole and Chrissie with the ideal equipment to compete in this grueling all women’s motorsports event. The team has entered the “4×4” class and will be competing in a 4WD 2014 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab prepared by TOTAL CHAOS Fabrication with parts and supplies from CRC, Baja Designs, KING Shocks, K&N, MaxTrax and Nugevity. “Having the right equipment in the Sahara Desert is essential.” says Beavis who won the Crossover class in 2015.

For 9 straight days and over 1100 kilometers, the ladies will navigate across the Moroccan Sahara using only a hand compass, a plotter and maps from the 1950s; no GPS, cell phones or outside assistance are allowed. The competition is not based on speed; instead the rallye winner is determined by strategically driving the shortest distance between given check points. The team must hit as many as seven checkpoints per day with as much as 40km of rugged terrain between them. Even primitive dirt roads are scarce in this landscape, forcing teams to traverse boulder-filled canyons, sandy washes, and even the infamous Merzouga dunes.  Both physically and mentally demanding, the Gazelle Rallye is a test of endurance for both the team and the equipment.

No American team has clinched a victory in the highly competitive 4×4 class, a class typically won by European teams with 5+ years of experience at the Gazelle. “I learned so much the first year about how the rallye works,” Nicole explained.  “This will be Chrissie’s 3rd participation and my 2nd. I am excited to have a navigator of her caliber and experience as a teammate. It is going make it a lot of fun despite the grueling long days!”

“We’re so excited the CRC/TOTAL CHAOS Tacoma and Team #180 are going back to Africa to compete in this amazing rally race”, said Dori Ahart, Marketing Manager, CRC Industries Automotive Division. “The skills, strength and endurance required of these women and all the Rallye competitors to navigate the Moroccan desert for 9 days is truly inspiring! CRC is proud to support Nicole and Chrissie as they go after a win for Team USA in this international competition, and all our CRC locations around the globe are also rooting for their success.”

The competition takes place March 23rd – 31st, 2016 and can be followed via live tracking on the rallye website . “My family and friends love that they can follow our progress in real time” says Beavis “we may not know where we are, but our followers back home will!”
